East-Central Africa Division reports election of Moses Maka as president
The East-Central Africa Division reports that the General Conference Executive Committee approved Moses Ndimukika Maka as president and Tom Ogal as executive secretary on Nov. 2, 2026.

On Nov. 2, 2026, the Seventh-day Adventist Church's East-Central Africa Division (ECD) reported that the General Conference (GC) Executive Committee, meeting virtually that day, approved Moses Ndimukika Maka as the division's next president. The committee also approved Tom Ogal as executive secretary. According to the division's report, the ECD Executive Committee had selected both leaders on Oct. 29, and they take up their roles with immediate effect.
The division says outgoing president Blasious Ruguri, who has led the ECD for 16 years, will stay on in an advisory capacity until he retires on Dec. 31, 2026.
The ECD report gives these details on the two leaders:
- Maka: born in Uganda in 1969, and elected ECD executive secretary at the 62nd General Conference Session in July 2025. He previously served as president of the Uganda Union Mission. He holds a PhD in Old Testament theology and exegesis from Sahmyook University in South Korea.
- Ogal: ECD undersecretary since August 2022, after seven years as an associate secretary of the division. He was ordained in 2006.
The report says the ECD Executive Committee listed integrity, spiritual leadership, a passion for mission and the ability to bring people together among the qualities it wanted in the next president. It quotes GC President Erton C. Köhler calling leadership "first and foremost a calling to serve God and His people." It also quotes Maka pledging to lead "not as a master, but as a servant."
