North American Division votes to keep more tithe with conferences and unions in 2027
The division says temporary funding changes will help local conferences facing rising health-care and insurance costs while leaders consider longer-term changes.

The North American Division's executive committee voted on Nov. 1 to leave more tithe with conferences and unions in 2027, according to the division's Nov. 6 report. Local conferences will retain an extra half-percent of gross tithe from the division and another half-percent from unions, except in Canada; a separate change keeps a 1.5 percent evangelism allocation at conferences outside Canada. A 2.35 percent education share will stay with unions in 2027, with unions deciding whether to return it directly to conferences or use it on their behalf. Conferences will also receive a January payment from division reserves equal to half a percent of their 2025 gross tithe, which treasurer Judy R. Glass estimated would total about $6.6 million. Leaders expect to consider longer-term proposals on church structure at next fall's meeting.
